Friends

Activity for Year 3 students

The Question is:  “Is it easy or hard or impossible to be friends with . . . . .”

 Three categories on the mat:

 Easy to be friends with

Harder to be friends with

Impossible to be friends with

List of cases:              a cat

                                    a dog

                                    a baby

                                    a rock

                                    an old person

                                    a teacher

                                    an imaginary person

someone who can’t hear or talk

                                    someone who lives in China

                                    a visitor from another planet

Some supplementary questions for the facilitator to use:

What would make X easy or hard to be friends with?  What kinds of things do you do with your friends?  Is there something you do with your friends that you could do with X?  Is there something you do with your friends that you couldn’t do with X?  Does something have to be like you to be easy to be friends with?  Could you be friends with something very unlike you?  Is there anything that you HAVE to have in common?  Could something be your friend if you couldn’t communicate with it?  Are there different ways of communicating?  Would it be easy to be friends with something that didn’t understand you?  How do you know if something understands you? . . .
